THIS SYSTEM DIFFERS FROM OTHER SYSTEMS THAT WE HAVE OFFERED IN
THAT IT UTILIZES A DUAL-PIEZO TRANSDUCER PICKUP CONFIGURATION FOR
A MORE CRISP SOUND, AND A VOLUME CONTROL KNOB!
These are built using very high quality 20mm piezo's. We can now offer to
substitute these for 15mm piezo's upon request. Please email us after
making your payment to specify that you would like 15mm transducers. This
configuration is designed for guitars which do not provide enough space
on the bridgeplate to allow for the bigger sized piezo's. Both systems have
a very similar tone but the smaller system provides a little less output than
the bigger sized system. In many cases this slight difference is negated by
the higher resonance of a smaller bridgeplate. These can be used with or
without a preamp with fantastic results. These are ideal if you desire a less
defined bass and mid-range output. They are designed for more resonant
guitars or ones with thinner soundboards.
This system utilizes a dual piezo configuration for a crisp sound. The dual
piezo configuration offers a few advantages over single piezo systems.
Having two piezo’s affords you the opportunity to place them at two
different points on the soundboard thus resulting in an improved dynamic
range due to the fact that they transmit the resonation found at more than
one point. These special surface transducers are under less pressure than
under saddle pickups thus decreasing the likelihood of them transmitting a
percussive or harsh sound. Each piezo is designed to pick up the
resonation found in a significant amount of the soundboard. These do not
"fade" or distort at high volume or with high-power systems. The highs are
crystal clear while the lows are, what they should be, low! They are very
responsive. The on-board volume control gives you added versatility. This
pickup configuration is offered in several high end guitars. All of our
products feature quality components and construction. These utilize a ¼
mono jack that is of equal quality to those manufactured by Switchcraft.
These will work great in a variety of instruments. Mandolins, ukulele’s,
bass guitars, banjo’s, violins, dobro’s, dulcimers, stomp boxes, etc. The
possibilities are endless! These, like all of our systems, can be installed in
about 15 minutes! They are a very simple and inexpensive means of
turning your acoustic instruments in to acoustic electric. But please don’t
let the price fool you!
Installation instructions.
Items you will need;
A drill
A 3/8 drill bit
A ¼ drill bit
A standard precision screwdriver
A small amount of super glue
Please note; The piezo’s must be handled with care during installation.
Installation;
1. Mark the desired locations for the jack and volume knob using a pencil.
2. Remove the strings to provide easier access inside the soundhole.
3. Carefully drill the holes using the 3/8 paddle bit for the jack and the ¼ bit for the volume knob.
4. Remove the nut and washer from the jack. Remove the volume knob using the precision
screwdriver. Remove
the nut and washer from the volume control.
5. Install the jack and volume control by pushing them through the holes from the inside. Replace the
nut and washer on each, then the volume knob using a small standard precision screwdriver.
6. You may want to experiment with the placement of the piezos before fixing them into place. You can
do this using a piece of masking tape to temporarily hold them in place. You will get a different tone
in different places on the guitar top.
7. Once you determine where you would like to mount the piezo's, attach them to the inside of the
guitar top by placing a drop of super-glue on each piezo (one at a time) and hold it in place for about
45 seconds.
The installation point that will result in the most amount of gain is directly under the saddle on the
bridgeplate.
8. That’s it! Replace strings, tune up, and plug it in!
We cannot accept any responsibility for guitar damage caused by installation.
